Pianist

Kaori Yamada,
a resident of Rockville, MD, received her B.A. in Piano from the Toho Gakuen School of Music, where she also completed the Ensemble Diploma Course. She has accompanied opera singers and performed chamber music in numerous concerts. She won a prize at the 1995 First Breeze Competition for her piano duo performance. She is the pianist for Columbia Music Entertainment’s recordings of new choir compositions. The CDs are sold to Japanese schools for their music classes. Yamada studied piano with Midori Kawashima and Yasushi Hirose, Deutsche Lieder (German songs) with Akiko Hoshino, and chamber music with Miyoko Yamane Goldberg, Takao Shiraishi, and Kazuoki Fujii. In 2006 she came to the U.S. when her husband started studying in Washington, D.C. While in the U.S., she has remained actively involved in chamber music and accompanying. Recently, during the 2007 Cherry Blossom Festival, Yamada performed with the Japanese Choral Society of Washington on The Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage.

Katsuko Takahashi, 
Katsuko is a graduate of the Toho Gakuen School of Music in piano performance. She received the 13th music award from the Bunka broadcast company. Ms. Takahashi taught at Utsunomiya College and Toho Gakuen School of Music as well. Performances include solos with the Nippon Philharmonic Orchestra and the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. She also performed in a piano duo for the NHK evening recital series. In 2000, she traveled to Bolivia for a concert tour with a group of violinists. She studied with Akiko Taranishi, Motonari Iguchi, and Beveridge Webster in New York. Currently, she is an active accompanist and has accompanied the Japanese Choral Society of Washington since 2004.
